We are happy to announce that our library has been chosen to receive a grant from Altrusa of Dekalb-Sycamore in the amount of $400 to purchase new, hardcover children’s books for our Summer Reading program. We are very grateful for this gift! Altrusa’s mission is “to promote Community Service, with an emphasis on literacy, and to create fund raising opportunities that provide resources for designated projects.”
Join us at the library on Saturday, May 7th from 10am-12pm and make beautiful paper flower bouquets to present to Mom on Mother’s Day! Children under 10 years old should be accompanied by an adult or older sibling.

This year the Flewellin Memorial Library will be participating in The Big Read, a national program that offers grants to support organizations in developing community-wide programs which encourage reading and participation by diverse audiences. We’d like to invite members of our community to join us in reading the book In the Time of Butterflies by Julia Alvarez. The library will host a book discussion and showing of the film starring Salma Hayek. Please let us know by March 1st if you’d like to participate. The film showing and book discussion will be scheduled in March pending the amount of interest shown.
Once again we’ll be offering a number of programs to keep kids busy over Spring Break.
March 18th–Indian Creek High School Art Gallery. Join us at the library from 5-6:30 to view some amazing art by local high school art students. Light refreshments will be served.
March 21st & 22nd—Game DAYS! We’ll have board games and a Wii available from 3-7pm on both days. If the kids get stir crazy send them down to the library.
March 24th—Dr. Seuss’s Birthday Party 2:30—
We’ll read a few favorites by Dr. Seuss, enjoy some birthday cupcakes and watch the movie Horton Hears a Who. We ask that parents or older sibling accompany children under 8 years old.
March 25th—Family Movie Night and Pizza! 5-7pm
We’ll be showing The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 2 (PG-13). Spend an evening at the library enjoying a movie and pizza with friends and family. Donations welcome. Parents or sibling should accompany children under 8 years old
