Flowers for Mom

Join us at the library on Saturday, May 7th from 10am-12pm and make beautiful paper flower bouquets to present to Mom on Mother’s Day!  Children under 10 years old should be accompanied by an adult or older sibling.



Thig readis year the Flewellin Memorial Library will be participating in The Big Read, a national program that offers grants to support organizations in developing community-wide programs which encourage reading and participation by diverse audiences.  We’d like to invite members of our community to join us in reading the book In the Time of Butterflies by Julia Alvarez.  The library will host a book discussion and showing of the film starring Salma Hayek. If you are interested in participating with us, give us a call at 815-824-2079, email at, or stop in. Those who participate will receive a free copy of the book. Please let us know by March 1st if you’d like to participate.  The film showing and book discussion will be scheduled in March pending the amount of interest shown.

Spring Break @ Your Library


Once again we’ll be offering a number of programs to keep kids busy over Spring Break.

March 18th–Indian Creek High School Art Gallery.  Join us at the library from 5-6:30 to view some amazing art by local high school art students.  Light refreshments will be served.

March 21st & 22ndGame DAYS!  We’ll have board games and a Wii available from 3-7pm on both days. If the kids get stir crazy send them down to the library.

March 24thDr. Seuss’s Birthday Party 2:30
We’ll read a few favorites by Dr. Seuss, enjoy some birthday cupcakes and watch the movie Horton Hears a Who.  We ask that parents or older sibling accompany children under 8 years old.

March 25th—Family Movie Night and Pizza! 5-7pm
We’ll be showing The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 2 (PG-13).  Spend an evening at the library enjoying a movie and pizza with friends and family. Donations welcome. Parents or sibling should accompany children under 8 years old

Flewellin Memorial Library chosen as DCCF Community Needs Grant recipient


We are excited to announce that the library has been chosen to receive a grant in the amount of $550 to purchase a flat screen TV and rolling cart for the purpose of enhancing library programming.  This TV and cart will allow us to host family movie nights, supplement summer reading programs, offer author presentations, and a variety of other community events. We are very grateful to the Dekalb County Community Foundation for this gift and for all that they do to help organizations in our county pursue their missions.

Harvest Basket Winner

A BIG THANK YOU goes out to everyone who purchased tickets and to all the businesses who donated items for the raffle.  With your help we raised $460 for library programming!

Fall Harvest Basket Raffle

• 1 wine tasting and FREE bottle of wine to take home from Waterman Winery

Also included: a hardcover copy of James Patterson’s 14th Deadly Sin and the audiobook of Suzanne Collins’ Catching Fire, 2 bookmarks, candle, potpourri, candy, fall décor items. Basket is valued at over $200!

Purchase 1 ticket for $5 or get 3 tickets for $10!

Stop in to the library and purchase your tickets, mail us a check (PO Box 190) or drop your payment in book drop box and we’ll enter your name in the drawing. For mail-in entries, be sure to include your phone number. Drawing will be held October 16th. All proceeds from the raffle will be invested in library programming: summer reading, family reading night, holiday events, job training workshops and author presentations. Thank you and good luck!
